As basic as it may be, avocado toast is just good. It is one of our favorite quick meals for breakfast, a light lunch or dinner with a side salad, or a morning or afternoon snack. One of life’s simplest pleasures.
You may have your opinions on what makes the best avocado toast. In this post we’ll share our basic recipe preference with some variations.
Ingredients:
-
1 slice of bread
-
0.4 of a ripe avocado
-
Pinch of salt ad pepper
-
Optional: Any of the extra toppings suggested in this post
Preparation:
-
Start with a whole wheat bread (we like ours with a good crust on it) and toast it.
-
While that’s going, slice your avocado up into chunks to make it spreadable. It has to be ripe. If it’s not ripe don’t even bother. Then comes a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper.
-
This basic version is great, but turn it up a notch by adding a fried egg for extra protein, healthy fat, and deliciousness. Another variation is to add a drizzle of honey before the salt and pepper for a sweeter take. Simple any time of the day.

Other options: Add a generous sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning on top of your avocado toast. Or, mix chopped fresh radish, green onion, jalapeño (seeds and ribs removed) and toasted sunflower seeds. If you have great tomatoes on hand, this is delicious too. Top your avocado toast with sliced tomato, add a light drizzle of high-quality thick balsamic vinegar or designated balsamic glaze, and some torn fresh basil leaves. In short: Avocado toast is very diverse and not disappointing.
